Snake love is definitely in the air in my house LOL Corn Snakes have already bred, Sunny my Lemon Pastel Ball Python is with Tipr my normal and Chewy and Jade are together. I swore I wouldn't breed anymore snakes because I hate parting with the babies but there is something so magical about bringing baby snakes into the world and that's what they do in a wild environment so no reason to deprive them of doing what nature has equipped them to do in a captive environment as long as you are dedicated to caring for them and finding the babies good homes :) I apologize for not posting videos lately but as you can see I've been VERY busy here at home with all my awesome scaled friends :o)

Of all the snakes I've raised Faide my big Dumeril's Ground Boa is the ONLY snake of mine that refuses to share his human friends with my cat so I have to close my 21 year old cat Deffer up in another room when Faide comes out he won't even allow my cat on my daybed so for safety precautions I don't expose to the two to each other. Faide has struck with a closed mouth several times to warn my cat to back away but has never struck with an open mouth but a warning can easily turn into an attack. Don't ever under estimate your snakes ability to think and reason things out they may often surprise you with their perception :)

All snakes have individual personalities and temperaments and they are all different from each other and snakes are and can be actually VERY entertaining and they do some of the funniest things ever. Most snakes definitely have their own likes and dislikes :)

People are so wrong about snakes they don't just tolerate people they enjoy human companionship !! People that raise snakes and really believe snakes don't enjoy having human interaction have no right to be keeping snakes (With the exception of breeders) because if you feel that way your snakes aren't getting a great quality of life !!!

For many years I've had church an d school groups and their parents visit my home to meet my snakes and learn about them and it's the greatest feeling in the world when people realize that snakes have no malicious intent and they touch one for the first time and their face lights up with such a big proud smile :)
These two visitors have been stopping by for awhile but the lady in the video was terrified of snakes her first visit and now she adores them.
It's amazing how many people actually associate snakes with evil because of their reputation for representing Satan in the Garden Of Eden and it's such a sigh of relief for people to see that snakes are really very awesome and cool animals.
I had planned to post this video earlier but was sick for two months with a respiratory infection and sadly enough Deffer my cat in this video passed away last week from kidney failure so I especially wanted to share this video in her behalf !

This video contains general information and things people really should consider before getting a snake to raise to insure the longevity of the snakes life and to make keeping a snake a pleasant experience for you as well ;)
It's not as important for you to look at things form your point of view as important as it is to learn about your snakes and understand why they have problems and do what they do and why you should consider things from your snakes point of view :)

Nosey and Grumpy are my male and female Boa Constrictor Occidentalis (Argentine Boas) and each is 14 feet long and at 100+ pounds and they have been handled and worked with since they were babies now at 15 years of age. They are on the Endangered Species List Appendix 1 C.I.T.E.S. List.
The quality of time that you invest handling and working with your snakes has everything to do with their ability to trust people and to be very people friendly social animals. There is no reason to fear snakes because of their size but there is every reason to respect them for what they are :)

Tawny my adult Colubrid (Corn Snake) has OCD she can't stand for her food to touch her skin Each snake has it's own individual personality and disposition just like people do and that's what sets them apart from each other. Snakes can be very entertaining and make great companions :o)

People always ask me why my snakes are so tame and why they don't strike at people so I'm making this video to better explain all the extra time and quality care that I invest with each snake to insure they trust people and remain social animals.

Grumpy is VERY protective of his mate Nosey and he will strike at me and try to bite me if I try to help her with her sheds and that's why using the hook was necessary to put him in check and it's harmless and not harassment but to insure my own safety !! There is nobody that knows your snakes as well as you do !!

Hook training is VERY important when raising snakes and it's not about the hook but about the message that you are relaying to your snakes !! I have big professional hooks but seldom feel there is a reason to use them as all of my snakes have been hook trained since they were babies. I usually use a twisted wire clothes hanger wrapped in vinyl tape to protect my snakes teeth in the event they strike at my hook.
A hook tells the snake that you aren't offering food you are reaching into it's enclosure and to back off and away from me and hook training prevents a LOT of bites to a handler !!
It's not about the hook but about the statement you are making to your snakes ! It tells the snake that you don't intimidate me and I still have control over your behavior and I expect respect from you !! It's harmless to the snake but it's great to maintain that control and safe distance between you and your snake when necessary.
You are responsible for your snakes health and safety as well as your own and hook training is a great way to insure both especially when working with BIG Constrictors !!

I love this time of the year when I can start taking my snakes back outdoors for some exercise and activities and the opportunity to express themselves and live like snakes should be able to live to have every opportunity to enhance their senses :)
Sunny was the first one out this time around and many of my snakes are getting ready to shed but they will get to go out after their sheds and after having eaten a meal,

Confident
Alpha males know they are the shit. Whether they are or not to someone else doesn’t really matter. Alpha males believe in themselves and aren’t afraid to show it physically, vocally or through action and thoughts.
When’s the last time you saw an alpha male that was afraid or second guessing themselves? Usually they just go for it because they are that confident.
Have Intangibles (Mentally Tough)
When I say intangibles, I’m talking about the right mentality. Alphas always think they are a winner. Sure they might fail once in awhile, but they get over it really fast and just move on.
They know that they will eventually succeed if they keep trying. Alpha males do not give up just because they failed once
Competitive
Alpha males don’t like to lose. They want to win.
They don’t just want to win, they want to beat the hell out of you and make you remember they won.
Everything they do in life is a competition. They want to be the best. Competition drives them. But they don’t do it to show off. It’s because they truly believe they should be winning all the time.
Make competition your friend. It will make you better in all parts of your life.

Something so many overlook is that no two snakes are the same. They each have their own personality and temperament and they get in bad moods and have good and great days. All of these different behaviors indicates that snakes do in fact display feelings and emotions. Jade my female Coastal Carpet Python in this video is a very moody and sometimes unpredictable snake and yet Chewy my male Coastal Carpet Python is extremely calm and placid and never changes his moods.

We all do things different to care for and raise our snakes because each snake is just as much an individual as every person is and there is nobody that knows each of your snakes as well as you do, their handler and owner. Someone that really loves their snakes gives each snake the environment they can best thrive in to remain healthy content snakes. I've raised snakes for 55 years and have never had to seek a vet for any health related issues with any of my snakes except for two rescued snakes and a LOT can be avoided from going wrong if you spend a ton of time observing your snakes and watching their body mechanics because they can let you know what needs to be changed or what they want different so they are more comfortable in their enclosures. It's all up to you to learn to understand each individual snake and give each one a good environment to exist in.
People on the other end of a keyboard have no right to tell you what you need to be doing for each of your snakes because there is no way they could possibly know your snakes as the individuals that they are, without having a close personal relationship with them so use your own good judgment and do what you feel is in your snakes best interest !!
People that keep snakes should spend less time finding fault with each other and pointing their fingers at each other and work together as a group of people that are trying to educate others about snakes. If we can't agree on a common goal without insulting each other that only accomplishes one thing and that is it shows people that we can't function as a tight group of people working toward a common goal and in the long run it's the snakes that lose out :( This division within the reptile community makes everyone a target when it comes to the animal rights organizations pushing their agenda and fighting to ban us all from keeping our pets. (HSUS, PETA, ASPCA,etc.)

I made this video primarily to show people the true nature of snakes that are used to human interaction and that are used to a great quality of life. :)
News Flash !!! Snakes Are Not Aggressive !! They Are Defensive And Curious !! If harassed a snake will come at you to warn you off and if they feel threatened at that time they may become aggressive but normally they only strike to defend their lives and in the case of captive snakes some strike and bites happen when feeding snakes. It really bothers me to hear people refer to snakes as aggressive :(

Mutual Trust, Respect And Understanding ! So looking forward to taking my scaled friends back outdoors soon this was filmed the end of this past summer with Mr. Chewy :) My intentions this spring and summer are dedicated to showing people that snakes do in fact have a close friendship relationship with people through my videos. The snake in this video was close to shedding so this also shows you that snakes that have learned to trust their handler don't get insecure or agitated with being handled while in pre-shed.

I don't know why people assume that big constrictors are deadly killers when in fact because of their vast size they usually prefer to conserve their energy so are a lot less likely to strike out at someone unless a person does something that they find terribly offensive.
Nosey my big female BCO is 14 feet in length and last weighed in at 104 pounds and I can leave their two cage level doors open all day and they won't come out except to look around and to watch me and see what I'm doing. I totally and absolutely trust them and have NEVER felt threatened by either of them as these are my two largest snakes.
