The Saltwater Crocodile (or Estuarine Crocodile) is the largest species of crocodile on earth today, with stories of 8,9 & 10 meter "monster crocodiles" being common throughout their historical range. In modern history however the largest crocodile we have any solid evidence of was an animal who was killed in Papua New Guinea, who skin was measured by crocodile expert Rom Whitaker at 6.2 meters long. More recently in 2011 Zoologist Adam Britton measured a large salt water crocodile named Lolong who was captured in the Philippines at 6.17 meters While stories abound to this day of giant crocodiles far exceeding these measurements none have ever been proven
